art deco theatre

In 1936 Sir Julien Cahn built himself one of the finest private art deco theatre and cinemas of its time, complete with a Wurlitzer Organ from the Madeleine Theatre in Paris and a gas-proof underground air shelter.

Hat Cahn had been fascinated by magic since he was a boy and in middle age, with the money, space and staff he began to perform large stage illusions. As President of the Leicester Magic Circle and an influential member of the Magician’s Club, Cahn traveled the world in search of inspiration for his shows.

‘The Eccentric Entrepreneur’ describes the fabulous theatre, his dealings with contemporary magicians and details the performances and illusions that Cahn staged. The book also provides a tantalizing insight into how some of his mind-boggling magic was created.
